Facebook is considering giving its users a less cheery alternative to the "Like" option: a "Sympathise" button. Many people come across a sad status update from a friend and they want to show the person that they care. But all they have is the inappropriate "Like" button.
A Facebook engineer has reportedly come up with a solution: a "Sympathise" button. So if a user tags her status with a negative emotion, the "Sympathise" button would automatically replace the "Like" button. But this is not going to happen anytime soon. For now, users will have to carry on with awkward silences..
